What happened

The outage knocked out Claude's web interface, its API, and its mobile applications for nearly ten hours — sending ripples through businesses that had quietly become dependent on AI for their day-to-day operations.

Who was hardest hit

- Queuing for async tasks — non-urgent AI tasks were queued and processed when service resumed, rather than dropped
- Documented manual procedures — teams knew exactly what to do without AI assistance
The lesson
The April 2026 outage won't be the last. AI providers — however well-resourced — cannot guarantee 100% uptime. The question every organisation needs to answer before the next incident is simple: if your primary AI provider went down for ten hours tomorrow, what would happen to your operations?
